Abstract
ASM Pacific Technology Ltd., a global supplier of semiconductor and LED manufacturing equipment, sought to improve production efficiency by eliminating the disconnect between product design and manufacturing. Separate engineering and manufacturing operations across multiple global locations created delays in implementing design changes and reduced machining efficiency. By implementing Siemens’ NX CAM software, ASM established an integrated CAD/CAM environment with feature-based machining, PMI-driven automation, and virtual machining verification. The solution enabled seamless design-to-manufacturing collaboration, standardized machining processes, reduced programming errors, and improved production efficiency and quality by 70 percent while supporting the company’s vision of smart factories.
Key Takeaways:
- Integrated CAD/CAM workflow: NX CAM enabled seamless connectivity between product design and manufacturing through a unified digital environment.
- Feature-based machining automation: Automatically identified machining features and product manufacturing information (PMI) from 3D models for efficient NC programming.
- Accelerated machining programming: Automated creation of machining processes and tool paths significantly reduced manual programming effort.
- Reduced programming errors: Integrated simulation and verification validated NC programs in a virtual environment before production, improving machining accuracy.
- Standardized machining processes: Established consistent machining rules and automated programming workflows across global manufacturing facilities.
- Improved production efficiency: Feature-based machining and PMI increased production efficiency and product quality by approximately 70 percent.
- Faster response to design changes: Direct CAD-to-CAM integration enabled manufacturing teams to implement engineering changes quickly and reduce time-to-market.
- Virtual machining validation: 3D simulation verified tool paths, material removal, and machine movements before physical machining, ensuring first-time machining success.
- Foundation for smart manufacturing: NX CAM supported ASM’s digital manufacturing strategy and accelerated its transition toward intelligent, smart factory operations.
