We’re delving deeply into all the new features and improvements in the Solid Edge 2024 release this year with a series of blog entries that highlight them. We’ll go over the updates to Solid Edge 2024’s CAD Direct, translation, and data transfer in this post.
Solid Edge simplifies the process of dealing with design data, regardless of its source. Solid Edge may use design data developed in other CAD programs, but it can also because of new features like CAD Direct, Data Translation, and Migration, which enable more formats. Solid Edge streamlines working with third-party files to the same level as native data, whether you’re transferring from another CAD system, reusing old design data, or collaborating with suppliers.
Solid Edge CAD Direct is an integrated 3D design feature that enhances user efficiency while manipulating geometry from widely used CAD platforms. With CAD Direct, customers can import design data straight into Solid Edge assemblies from SolidWorks Inventor, PTC Creo, CATIA, and ACIS without having to deal with the complexity of translation.
Along with NX, SolidWorks, JT, STEP, and Parasolid files (part or assembly), the new supported formats of SolidWorks Inventor, PTC Creo, CATIA, and ACIS are now supported. Because CAD Direct supports numerous file types and does not need everyone to use the same modeling system, it also facilitates working and cooperating with suppliers, partners, and other departments within your firm.
It is possible to put files straight into a Solid Edge assembly without having to translate them individually. Associativity between files is preserved by keeping the link between the parent file and Solid Edge geometry. It is also possible to incorporate solid surfaces and bodies as internal components. Changes farther down the line, such relationships or assembly features, can be made using the inserted geometry. Changes made in the parent file can be mirrored in CAD Direct, or users can break the link, provided associativity between CAD Direct geometry and the parent file is maintained.
Users may convert and move data in Solid Edge in a coherent, effective, and efficient manner thanks to its robust data reuse features. Users now have the option to utilize design data generated by other CAD programs. Among the translation and migration improvements are:
- Import of Catia CGM
- Better import for Inventor and Creo
- Importing DWG/DXF mesh data
- Enhanced export of STL
- Enhanced exporting of 2D
- Better Inventor and SolidWorks migration
